Gelt Program

The P.O. is pleased to introduce the gift card "Gelt program" to our families. Faculty and staff who buy Gelt will help to support programs provided for the school by the P.O. This program is designed to help families earn money toward their children's junior year Panim program and/or the Senior Israel Experience. The program is a passive earning system, in which you buy the things you ordinarily purchase anyway and earn money which will be credited to your family for designated school trips. If you have any questions, contact Kim Frankel 847.373.1183 kfrankel0721@gmail.com or Sarah Budweg 847.710.1740 sbudweg13@aol.com.

Need stationery? Holiday cards? Family tributes? Order cards from the P.O.! Click herefor more information.

Spring Sports

Good game!Men's tennis finished the season strong against Niles North High School as they tied the match 2-2.  Unfortunatley, the match against Northridge Prep was cancelled and will probably not be rescheduled.  The tennis team will miss seniors Jacob Rabinowitz, Leo Spornstarr, Matthew Levin, and Eli Mogul.  Thanks to new coach Christi Turdo for making this a memorable season.

cjhs.imageWomen's soccer had two games this week.  Monday at Cristo Rey, the team tied 2-2.  On Wednesday, the team played hard in its final match of the season in the IHSA tournament against a very experienced Willows Academy team.  The team wishes to think its new coach, P.J. Eagle, foudning coach Gina Cohen, and assistant coach, freshman Michael Jacobson

The men's volleyball team lost a close game this week against Northtown Academy in a tiebreaker game.  Both the Varsity and JV teams took on Westminister Christian yesterday, and the teams play Monday against Cristo Rey in their regular season final game.  Men's volleyball will be taking a break for the summer.  Next fall, come support our volleyball varsity team as they take on Stevenson in the opening round of the IHSA tournament on November 24!

cjhs.imageThe seventh annual spring sports awards banquet will be held Tuesday, May 25 for all students during an all-school assembly.  A sports year-in-review slide show, awards presentations, guest speaker, and special presentation will be the highlights.

Yasher koach and godspeed to Assistant Athletic Director Matthew Levin, CJHS Class of 2010, who will be starting his freshman year at Boston University this fall.  For the past two years, Matthew has truly outdone himself organizing, troubleshooting, blogging, and rallying, all in the name of the CJHS Tigers.  Matthew's superhuman efforts have built the CJHS sports programs into the powerhouse of talent they are today.  Good luck, Matthew!

Alumni Trivia

cjhs.imageLaser physicist Dr. Ronald McNair was the first in his family to attend college, and the second African-American to rise into space. His death aboard the ill-fated Challenger in 1986 was an American tragedy, but his legacy lives on through his support of hundreds of aspiring doctoral students of diverse backgrounds. Which Argentinian-American alumna has just been awarded a Congressional McNair scholarship to aid her in her pursuit of her PhD in psychology?
CJHS on Facebook

cjhs.imageCheck out our new Facebook page. It's new, and it's the official page for the school. We're trying to get a solid fan base and get the word out. We bet we can get a million fans before the Academy can!
Bike for Chai Lifeline

Become a Chai Cyclist: ride with CJHS on Chicago's Bike the Drive on Sunday, May 30, to raise money for Chai Lifeline.  Experienced and novice cyclists are welcome.  This is not a race; you can choose your own distance to ride with over 20,000 riders.  See Chicago in a unique way, as there will be no cars on Lake Shore Drive during the ride times.  Support the families of Chai Lifeline.  Please see Jeremy Hipps or Dr. Auslander for more information.
Greater Chicago Jewish Folk Arts Festival

FestivalCJHS is looking for parents, students, teachers and board members to help promote our school at the Greater Chicago Jewish Folk Arts Festival.  This biennial event will be on Sunday, June 13, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Cook County Forest Preserve (Oakton Street west of Lehigh).  Similar to years past, CJHS will have an information booth at the Organizational Fair.  This is an important opportunity for us to reach out to the 10,000+ participants who will be attending this year's event.  We're looking for volunteers to help manage the booth for one hour at a time.  You'll be asked to pass out information and talk to those interested in learning more about CJHS.

Please email Rachel Spiro, rspiro@cjhs.org, with your availability.
