Gelt Program
The P.O. is pleased to introduce the gift card "Gelt program" to our families. Faculty and staff who buy Gelt will help to support programs provided for the school by the P.O. This program is designed to help families earn money toward their children's junior year Panim program and/or the Senior Israel Experience. The program is a passive earning system, in which you buy the things you ordinarily purchase anyway and earn money which will be credited to your family for designated school trips. If you have any questions, contact Kim Frankel 847.373.1183 kfrankel0721@gmail.com or Sarah Budweg 847.710.1740 sbudweg13@aol.com.

Model U.N. Takes on NYC!
Seventeen of our most talented international studies scholars landed in New York City on Tuesday evening for the 2010 Model U.N. Conference. CJHS is representing the Czech Republic this year; s ome of our students are also on specialized committees that represent the nations of Senegal, the Russian Federation and Spain. Sophomore Benjy Forester reports from New York that his public advocacy skills are growing exponentially and that the CJHS delegation "dominated the committee" Wednesday morning. On schedule later this week are committee meetings with France, the U.K., and the U.S.A., as well as a Shabbat hike to Congregation Habonim... where they may see a familiar face (see "Alumni Trivia" below). Stay tuned for next week's full report!

Save the Date: JTS Wagner Institute
Chicagoland Jewish High School is thrilled to share a rare opportunity with you: the chance to study with the preeminent scholars of the Jewish Theological Seminary--right here at CJHS. In addition, juniors and seniors may apply to win a $5,000 college scholarship as part of this experience.
For over 15 years, the Wagner Institute has been a staple of JTS's continuing education for adults, and this year it will be held in Deerfield in partnership with Chicagoland Jewish High School. In 1994, Nate Wagner and Ruth Braver endowed the Isidor and Rose Wagner Institute for Leadership Development of The Jewish Theological Seminary; this year's Wagner Institute will be held on April 18-19 at CJHS and will feature the participation of CJHS students and faculty along with members of the greater community. The Wagner Institute will provide a dynamic forum for people to explore ancient and modern Jewish texts and traditions with some of the most creative and compelling faculty of JTS, including Dr. Eitan Fishbane, Dr. Neil Gillman, Rabbi David Hoffman, Dr. Amy Kalmanofsky, Dr. David Kraemer, Rabbi Marc Wolf, and Rabbi Joel Roth.
The theme for this year's Wagner Institute is Living Jewishly Today: Contemporary Conversations About Jewish Beliefs, Family and Rituals.
Through the generosity of the Wagner family, the fees for the program are $72 per participant. This fee includes all texts and program meals (lunch, dinner, and snacks on Sunday, and breakfast, lunch, and snacks on Monday). The program is free for students.
The Wagner Institute will take place on Sunday, April 18 from 11:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, April 19 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Invitations containing registration information will be mailed shortly.
For further information about the Wagner Institute, please contact Stephanie Smerling, Director of Institutional Advancement for Chicagoland Jewish High School, at 847.324.3720 or ssmerling@cjhs.org or Nadine Sasson Cohen, Midwest Director for JTS, at 312.606.9086 or nacohen@jtsa.edu.
We look forward to having the Wagner Institute and its participants join our community in April. |

Pi Day
This past Sunday was Pi Day, celebrated on Friday at CJHS with a celebration of pie. In tribute to the famous transcendental number, students composed poetry, invented cryptograms, baked 3.14 in cookie form, and all vied for the most creative use of pi. Winners of the contest, seniors Arianna Rozen and Victoria Aron, whose interpretive pi dance charmed the judges, celebrated their victory by throwing a pie at Ms. Gitlin. A few unofficial pies also appear to have been thrown in the resulting festivities, and CJHS continues to prepare for the Grand Pi Day of 2015.

Senior Class Murder Mystery
On Sunday, February 28, the senior class had a High School Reunion Murder Mystery Party at Jamie and Matt Levin's house. The night was filled with fun and suspicious characters. During the party, Brett Riederman was "murdered" and everyone had to figure out who was guilty. Everyone came dressed up as characters from High School Reunion: cheerleaders, math geeks, and drama club members. Each senior assumed their role and questioned the others carefully to figure out who was the murderer. Nina Kiken almost got away with the murder until Peri Axelrod accused her of committing the crime. Ultimately, Nina Kiken was voted best performance and Miranda Borkan, a cheerleader, was voted best dressed. Thanks to everyone who participated and to the Levin family for hosting and planning the party.
