Gelt Program

The P.O. is pleased to introduce the gift card "Gelt program" to our families. Faculty and staff who buy Gelt will help to support programs provided for the school by the P.O. This program is designed to help families earn money toward their children's junior year Panim program and/or the Senior Israel Experience. The program is a passive earning system, in which you buy the things you ordinarily purchase anyway and earn money which will be credited to your family for designated school trips. If you have any questions, contact Kim Frankel 847.373.1183 kfrankel0721@gmail.com or Sarah Budweg 847.710.1740 sbudweg13@aol.com.

Need stationery?  Holiday cards?  Family tributes?  Order cards from the P.O.!  Click here for more information.

Tu B'Shevat Celebration

Tree-planting children replaced basketball-playing high schoolers at CJHS yesterday as the school hosted a community-wide Tu B'Shevat celebration. In CJHS's gym-turned-forest, children enjoyed taking part in myriad activities focused on Israel and the environment.  Planned and coordinated by the Jewish National Fund and many other co-sponsors, including the
JCCs of Chicago, the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Forest Service, the event featured tree-themed arts and crafts run by Jewish schools, camps, and businesses.  Kids were also treated to a Krav Maga demonstration, live storytelling, performances by Jewish childrens' choirs including the longstanding Shining Lights, and Israeli food by Mizrahi Grill, Zelda's, and Garden Fresh.

cjhs.imageWhy is our sun that lovely peach color that artless astronomers refer to as G2?  And what would happen to our sun if it were a just a little bigger?  Ask Aliza Small, Jordy Shapiro, Aaron Cohn, Jonah Harris, Zach Spellman, Alex Krule, Erik Howden, and Adam Schneider, and they'll tell you that its internal pressure would blow it to Kingdom Come.  All stars share very similiar dimensions for reasons of pressure and stability, club advisor Dr. Josh Burton told our team this past Friday as we delved into astrodynamics.  Come join us in February as we continue our exploration of the stars!
Bowling Invitational

Join the Ten-Pin Tigers this Thursday for a round of bowling at Brunzwick Zone in Deerfield.  Bowling team members enjoy showing their improved skills and knowledge of the game and have fun at the same time.  This is the concluding bowling event for the team and will be followed by a bowling banquet at Mizrahi Grill on Tuesday, February 2.

Alumni Trivia

Crocheting ClubIt's the Crocheting Club!  Founded by Esther Bier and Elli Cohn, CJHS '09, during their freshman year, the club has donated dozens of handmade hats to childhood cancer patients.  As a separate club, Crocheting Club boasted the most diverse membership within the school including girls and boys, seniors and freshmen, mothers and grandmothers who all loved to knit.  Club founder Esther Bier is now doing tikkun olam in Israel on Workshop with Habonim Dror, and Elli Cohn is volunteering at the Bnai Brith community house at Muhlenberg College, where she is a freshman.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Dworkin, father of Bradley (Judith) Dworkin, grandfather of freshman David Dworkin.  Donations in Alan Dworkin's memory may be directed to the Cancer Wellness Center.

We also regert to announce the passing of Leon Schneider, grandfather of senior Eli Mogul, father of Dr. Karen (David Mogul) Schneider.  May God comfort the Mogul, Schneider, and Dworkin families with all the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
