The program is comprised of three strands: · Issues of Concern to Parents · The CJHS Book Group · Torah Lishma (Learning for its own sake) Please find the details about programs at www.cjhs.org/pdf/ parenteducation. Click here for more information on December's Book Group! We'll be reading Khirbet Khizeh and discussing it on 12/7.
Gelt ProgramThe P.O. is pleased to introduce the gift card "Gelt program" to our families. Faculty and staff who buy Gelt will help to support programs provided for the school by the P.O. This program is designed to help families earn money toward their children's junior year Panim program and/or the Senior Israel Experience. The program is a passive earning system, in which you buy the things you ordinarily purchase anyway and earn money which will be credited to your family for designated school trips. If you have any questions, contact Kim Frankel 847.373.1183 kfrankel0721@gmail.com or Sarah Budweg 847.710.1740 sbudweg13@aol.com.

Mathletes Score High
The CJHS math team started off the year with the highest EVER score on an Illinois Math League Contest: 25 out of 30 possible points! The contests consist of fun and challenging questions like this one: "In a certain two-person game, each player, in turn, removes 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 toothpicks from a common pile, until the pile is exhausted. The player who takes the last toothpick loses. If the starting pile contains 300 toothpicks, how many toothpicks must the first player take on the first turn to guarantee a win with perfect subsequent play?" To check your answer ask any of the students who participated: Benji Fleischacker, Ari Eisenstadt, Louis Shekhtman, Leo Spornstarr, Nicolas Levy, Jordan Shapiro, Jonah Harris, Sarah Chiren, Matt Levin, Miriam Maltsman, Jeffery Budweg, Naomi Michael, Brianna Wolin, Alex Krule, Adin Warner-Rosen, or Nina Kiken, or e-mail Ms. Gitlin at mgitlin@cjhs.org. The next contest is the annual Team Scramble held on Thursday, November 12 during lunch. |

Photography Exhibit
CJHS is proud to announce its upcoming photography exhibit, Straddling Heaven & Earth: Portraits of Contemplation, Prayer and Meditation. The event will take place on Sunday, November 8, 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the CJE Senior Life facility, Gidwitz Place for Assisted Living. Initiated by Marla Snyder, Photography and Studio Art teacher at CJHS, the exhibit is a part of the students three-week long photography assignment, and also helps strengthen the ongoing relationship shared by CJHS students and Gidwitz residents. The 22 students worked in pairs to discuss how to best photograph each other in meditative, deep thought, and set up times and places to create these portraits. Accompanying their black and white photos are personal statements explaining why the students chose their particular snapshots. All are invited to attend the free exhibit, located at Gidwitz Place, 1551 Lake Cook Road. Speak with CJHS students and Gidwitz residents, and learn about their budding, unique relationship. Refreshments will be served. For more information about the Straddling Heaven & Earth exhibit, contact Marla Snyder at 847.324.3744 or msnyder@cjhs.org. |

Over 40 Schechter Eighth Graders Attend Mini-Visit at CJHS
This past Wednesday, Schechter students were invited to spend the afternoon at CJHS so they could get a taste of what it's like to be a student here. The eighth graders were greeted by members of our senior class and were led into the Shapiro Dining Hall for an ice cream social. The students were then divided into small groups, working with our seniors on an English class assignment. Dr. Roberta Miller commented on how fun it was to see her "old students" from when she taught them as 4th graders at Schechter. Following English class, students were invited to participate in a gym or art class before ending the day with a pizza party with our freshmen.

Applications for Admissions are available at www.cjhs.org/admissions or by contacting Rachel Spiro, Director of Admissions. Save $500 off your student's first year of tuition by submitting an application prior to the December 15 Early Decision Deadline. |
