| Senior Israel Experience
Shabbat Shalom from Israel!
"We have nearly completed our second week of the Senior Israel Experience. Whether we are in Jerusalem, the North, or elsewhere, every day brings new adventures, and we are pleased to share many of these with you on our blog, located at http://seniorisraelexperience.blogspot.com. As you read this, we are all visiting family and friends for our free Shabbat. We will regroup on Sunday morning for a couple of days in the desert before we return to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the final few days of our experience."
Much love,
Ms. Musin

Molar Derby
Every year, Mr. Ron Urick's chemistry students create "moles," punning on the concept of moles and molarity. These often-elaborate stuffed animals are judged for creativity, wit, humor, and workmanship by the CJHS faculty and a team of chemistry students. Although construction of the mole doll is optional, most of the class enthsuiastically competes for bonus points and for the coveted first-place mole.
This year's favorite moles were...
1st place - Shelby Cooper's "Mole-ca Frappucino"
2nd place - Sarah Scheinman's "Rod Molegojevich"
3rd place - Sissa Abecassis' "Rabbi Moleberg"

New Babies
Congratulations to math teacher Marina Gitlin and her husband, Anton Mostovoy, on the birth of their son, Micah Jacob Mostovoy on Sunday, January 4. He is 7 pounds and 14 ounces and 21 inches tall. Mom and baby are doing fine.
Congratulations, too, to technology coordinator David Rose and his wife Kelly, on the birth of their 6 pound, 12 ounce baby girl on Tuesday! Mom and baby are similarly well, and the littlest Rose will have a baby naming later this month.

Alumni News
Daniel Bier (CJHS '06, now at Ohio State University) was interviewed on central Ohio's CBS station in a segment on campus response to the Gaza war. Bier and his classmate Josh Levy make a case for Israel and try to convey their level of concern for Israel's security and the welfare of all Israelis and Palestinians. Bier is pleased with the positive press that the interview has generated, but grumbles good-naturedly, "The channel edited our comments on Iran and the broader implications of the conflict out. The clip doesn't include a comment by the anchor that, 'There is a pro-Palestinian group on campus, but we were unable to find them.' They were too busy at the time protesting with about 50 people, more than half of whom were not university students, on a street near campus." Watch a segment of the interview here.
On a lighter note, E-news also congratulates Rachel Hilker ('05) on her acceptance to JTS Cantorial School. |
