Development News and Events
Many thanks to Andy and Ken Saffir for sponsoring Pioneer Night. Thank you, CJHS Pioneers!
We would like to congratulate the pioneer graduating class of 2005, many of whom returned to the school this past November for an evening of reunion and celebration. Unveiled at Pioneer Night was a dedication plaque, as well as a multi-colored quilt created in the pioneer students' honor. CJHS would also like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to event hosts Andy and Ken Saffir, without whose generous support the school would not be here today.

Tigers Win Game 1 of Cooper Invitational
The CJHS men's basketball team emerged victorious from the first day of the Cooper Yeshiva Tournament in Memphis yesterday, defeating the Beren Academy Stars of Houston, 39-34. High scorer for Game 1 was sophomore Aaron Cohn, who slammed 11 points towards Tiger victory!
The Tigers are seeded 4th to take on the Bergen County Storm of Bergen County, NJ, this Friday at 1:00 p.m. The adrenaline is running high as the Tiger boys prepare to avenge last year's defeat at the hands of the Storm at the Yeshiva University tournament last spring.
The Cooper Invitational was created as an opportunity for varsity basketball teams from Jewish high schools across the country to compete in a high level basketball event, meet and develop friendships with young men their ages from across the country, and experience a meaningful Shabbaton immersed in "southern hospitality."

שף הברזל CJHS (Iron Chef CJHS)
Concluding their unit on food, the Neta 7 senior Hebrew class is presenting a Hebrew cooking show during their second-period class. Each student writes up a favorite recipe, or מתכון, then prepares it in front of the class.
This week's featured guests were Sydni "Salmana" Cole, who assembled her trademark cheese and olive sandwiches with fruit salad, Avra Shapiro and Nicole "Freida" Wiznitzer, who made smoothies, Yali "Yael" Derman who mixed up some chocolate chip cookie dough (and assured her classmates that "salmonella" in Hebrew is still "salmonella"), and Rachel Garfinkel and Francesca "Chana" Hirschfield, who prepared a flourless chocolate cake.
Stay tuned for next week's guest Neta chefs... who knows what they have in store for us? |
