Come to the Cabaret!

Red, White, and Blue Cabaret, an evening of politics, presidents, and protests, will take place this Sunday and Monday night here at CJHS.  Music begins at 6:15; curtain time is 7:00 p.m.  This performance of music, song, and dance will be enhanced by political commentary as we prepare for this historic election.  The show is under the direction of Mr. Rich Green, Vocal Director, and Mrs. Melissa Estes, Drama Director.  Special performances will be given by the CJHS jazz band, dance team, a cappella group, and an extra-special number by the faculty. Don't miss this showcase of talent!

Dr. Rebecca Schorsch at Lishma

Bagels, Bagels, Bagels! This year's Lishma lecture series begins with CJHS's own Dr. Rebecca Schorsch as our first speaker. The initial program, entitled "What's So Hard About Reading the Bible?" is taking place on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. at CJHS. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Dr. Schorsch's Lishma presentation will explore scholarly and religious approaches to reading the Bible, keeping in mind the implications of this scholarship on contemporary Jewish education.

Lishma is beginning its second year and features distinguished speakers discussing a wide variety of topics - both Judaic and general - of interest to the community. Space for the program featuring Dr. Schorsch is limited. Reservations can be made by contacting Bobbie Wolk at 847.324.3723 or rwolk@cjhs.org. Suggested minimum donation for the event is $18; parking will be available.

Come Build Our Garden

gardenCJHS students are building a garden, and we need your help!  Come on Sunday, November 9, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and help the Garden Club build three raised gardens right outside the school.  No experience is needed, and it will be fun and rewarding!  We will be digging, raking, hammering, and shoveling, so wear clothes you can get dirty!

Even if you can't come on Sunday, you can still help.  We need to borrow the following tools:
     Shovels
     Wheelbarrows
     Sledge Hammers
     Rakes
     Mattocks
If you have any of those tools and would be willing to lend them to the Garden Club for Sunday, November 9, please contact Ellie Honan, blondellie220@yahoo.com, or 952.217.7911.
Interfaith Youth Core Kicks Off

ifycOn Thursday October 23, students discussed each faith's view on genocide with our partner schools, Loyola Academy and Universal High School.  Students focused on the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, and watched a short film about the destruction that the Sudanese government is inflicting on its people: http://www.savedarfur.org/pages/organize_your_congregation.
They examined genocide through a religious lens, as well as a human lens, and discussed what can we do as Jews, Christian or Muslims to help stop the violence? What can we do as people to cease the destruction?

IFYC Students Shadow Other Schools

On Monday, October 20, Sydni Cole, Jeremy Hipps, and Noa Fleischacker shadowed fellow IFYC students at Loyola Academy in Wilmette.  This year, IFYC is holding shadow days at each of the three affiliate schools, Loyola Academy, CJHS, and Universal High School, allowing students to experience a typical day at each school.  Students from Loyola and Universal will be shadowing at CJHS on November 20.
