Spanish Students Explore Art
On Friday, October 10, the Spanish III and Spanish IV AP classes participated in a field trip. They began their day at the Art Institute with a Spanish-speaking docent who conducted a tour of some of the museum's permanent collection of Spanish art. They then walked to the Spertus Institute and ate box lunches of kosher Spanish tapas prepared by Laura Frankel, a CJHS mom and chef at Wolfgang Puck. Following a short bus ride, they went to the National Museum of Mexican Art where they had a tour, in Spanish, of the Day of the Dead exhibit. A special thank you to Cynthia Lerner who accompanied the group on this trip. |

Bruce Scher Honored
Bruce Scher, CJHS Academic Dean and Director of College Counseling, received the Harry I. Hoffman Award from the Response Center. The Hoffman Award is given to an organization or an individual who has demonstrated unusual commitment to the welfare of teens. Harry I. Hoffman was a Chicago businessman and philanthropist whose commitment to children spanned a lifetime of community service. The Response Center supports adolescents and their families in the Jewish and general community by providing prevention, outreach, counseling, and medical services in a teen-friendly environment that empowers teens to make healthy life choices. Mr. Scher was most honored by this recognition and is grateful that he has had the opportunity over the past 35 years to touch the lives of so many wonderful young people within so many different communities. His work in his Temple, his community, and CJHS gives him the chance to empower young people to value their strengths, meet their personal and academic challenges, and to live their lives in such a way that they use their knowledge and their skills to make this world a better place for all people to live. "Our hope for future Jewish communities rests within the power of our young people," said Scher. "We must imbue them with the knowledge, skills, and spirituality to lead the future generations of Jewish and non-Jewish adolescents so all young people can appreciate the opportunities and challenges that face them in today's world. As adults, we must help young people, through intervention and education, to build a firm and solid bridge between today and their future."

Sign Up for Weekly Calendar Updates
Each day at CJHS is full of events--classes, club and committee meetings, athletic events, rehearsals, etc. CJHS uses Trumba, a calendar program that assembles all of this information into a unified, easily accessible structure; because the calendar is online, you can access it from virtually anywhere. The calendar's features include color-coding by event type, addresses and maps to events taking place outside the CJHS building, a search function, and much more. Use the Calendar Tips in the lefthand column to access the calendar. The Trumba calendar is updated on a daily basis, so be sure to check it regularly. To look at the calendar, click on www.trumba.com/calendars/cjhs. The password to access the calendar has already been sent to families and staff. As in previous years, Trumba is capable of sending automated calendar updates to your email address. If you would like to receive these updates, please email cmusin@cjhs.org. The first automated email will be sent on Sunday. If you have questions about using the online calendar, please contact Ms. Musin at cmusin@cjhs.org or 847.423.5960. |
