CJHS Tigers Win First Tournament Game
The CJHS men's basketball team won it's first-ever Illinois class 1-A regional tournament game on Monday, defeating Elgin Academy 56-47. The Tigers, led by juniors Danny Silver and Victor Abecassis and sophomore Danny Eisenberg, held Elgin to 24% shooting and outrebounded their opponents in the first half 25-12, with senior Shai Kamin leading the way. Danny Silver finished the games with 16 points; Victor Abecassis had 13, Danny Eisenberg 11, and Shai Kamin and junior Alan Bukingolts scored 7 points each.
The Tigers regional play came to an end Wednesday with a 51-25 loss to top-seeded home team Westminster Christian School. Victor Abecassis led the Tigers with 12 points.
Danny Eisenberg and Victor Abecassis advanced to the second round of the three-point shooting competition, and Danny made it to the third round, which will be held on Friday afternoon.
Congratulations to all for a great season! |
It was standing room only on Wednesday evening, as prospective students and their parents packed CJHS to hear from administrators and department chairs about the school's mission and core values, our integrated general and Judaic studies curriculum, our remarkable record of college placement, and the many opportunities available to CJHS students in athletics, the fine arts, and more. The department chairs, several of whom came to CJHS after long, successful careers at North Shore public high schools, also shared some of the reasons why they love teaching here - including the vibrant community, the collegial relationship among the faculty, the energetic student body, and their commitment to CJHS's mission. Following the presentation, parents participated in an informative question and answer session, while students learned more about the school from CJHS student ambassadors. As parting gifts, parents received packets of information about CJHS academics and activities, and students received the newest CJHS tie-dye T-shirt.
"Curriculum and Beyond was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the breadth of our curriculum, the expertise of our faculty, and our vibrant school life," says Ms. Rachel Spiro, Director of Admissions. "We thank our terrific recruitment committee for their help and support in making this event so successful." |

Purim is coming soon! Each year, the Va'ad and Va'ad Tikkun Olam sponsor a Mishloach Manot drive for the school community. Students, faculty, and staff can purchase Purim baskets for friends and colleagues. Every CJHS family will receive a basket of delicious treats.
Purchase Mishloach Manot for individual families at $5 per family, or donate $120 to sponsor Mishloach Manot for the entire school (200 baskets). All proceeds from this drive will be donated to Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger, to fulfill our obligation at Purim - and throughout the year - to feed those in need. Order forms have been placed in student mailboxes and have also been sent by e-mail. You can also download an order form here. Please make checks payable to MAZON, and return order forms and checks to Jeff Berger, Va'ad Fundraising Vice President, at CJHS by March 7.
