CJHS Seniors Earn National Honors
The CJHS community congratulates two members of the Class of 2008 who have been named Finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. Ari Frankel and Richard Kahn are members of a distinguished group selected from among those students who scored highest nationwide on the 2006 PSAT. Semifinalists advance to Finalist standing based on academic recognition, a student essay, and a counselor recommendation.
The community also congratulates seniors Richard Kahn and Shai Kamin, who have been selected as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The program, established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President, recognizes some the nation's most distinguished graduating seniors for their achievements in the areas of academics, leadership, and service. Kate Spade Handbag Designed by CJHS Student to Debut in Chicago
Last spring, CJHS junior and "Make-A-Wish Kid" Yael Derman traveled to New York to fulfill her wish: to join forces with renowned designer Kate Spade to create a handbag to raise awareness of childhood cancer survivorship. The "Yali Carry On Bag" will be introduced to the public from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at the Kate Spade Store, 56 E. Oak Street in Chicago. As Yali explains, "the 'Yali Carry On Bag' makes the statement that cancer survivors 'carry on' with life in the face of their 'medical baggage.'" A limited number of handbags will be available to the public for $325, with half the proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Chicago First Lady Maggie Daley will purchase the first handbag at noon.

Purchase Mishloach Manot for individual families at $5 per family, or donate $120 to sponsor Mishloach Manot for the entire school (200 baskets).
