Basketball Teams Debut in New Gym
Tiger hoopsters kicked off their inaugural basketball season in our beautiful new gym with two exciting games against Hinsdale Adventist Academy on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers' "A" team came back from a first-half deficit for a resounding victory. Led by the shooting of three-point specialist senior Yael Schwartz (who also scored the first bucket), a standout all-around game by senior Lilli Flink, and big-time rebounding by sophomore Aliza Shapiro, the Lady Tigers demonstrated that they are a force to be reckoned with this season. The Women's "B" team began its own winning streak with a win over St. Martin de Porre on Wednesday. With hot outside shooting by freshman Shelby Cooper, cool inside moves by freshman Alison Dreifuss, and aggressive defensive play by junior Ellie Honan, this new team is destined for big things. The girls face Cristo Rey, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Regina Dominican, and Waldorf before the Thanksgiving break.
The men's varsity faced a very athletic Hinsdale Adventist Academy team, but still managed to hold its own. Late in the game, the opponents pulled away with a vicious full-court press, giving the men their first loss of the season. Senior Shai Kamin was unstoppable in the low-post, and special recognition goes to sophomore Danny Eisenberg for scoring the inaugural bucket in the new gymnasium. The men's junior varsity and varsity face New Jerusalem Baptist Church on Sunday before beginning their important Metro Prep League schedule after Thanksgiving.
In its debut appearance, the CJHS Tiger mascot, a gift from the class of 2007, led the enthusiastic crowd in cheering on the tigers. The players love fan support, and hope to see big crowds at all their games.

Play hard! Have fun! Go Tigers! |

Va'ad Tefillah Shabbaton a Success
The 12 members of the CJHS Va'ad Tefillah recently enjoyed a wonderful Shabbaton together in the city at Anshe Emet Synagogue. They spent Shabbat davening, singing, bonding, and of course, eating. Thank you to Rabbi Barkan and Ms. Musin for staffing the Shabbaton, Dr. Raviv for teaching at Seudah Shlishit and to Rabbi Fryer for coordinating with Anshe Emet. Thank you also to Rabbi Michael Siegel for his tremendous support of this program. |
