Students and Faculty Mark Rabin's Yahrzeit
CJHS observed the Yahrzeit of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin on 12 Cheshvan / October 24. Va'ad Israel sponsored a program with a short film on Rabin's life and the implications of his assassination. The program was well-received by both faculty and students.
"I hope we all can take a minute to reflect on Rabin's impact on the modern state of Israel and on the Jewish community," said Shai Kamin, president of Va'ad Israel. "We must remember that Rabin was a human being and in Jewish tradition, the destruction of a single life is equivalent to the destruction of the world. His spirit and the values he fought for will live on through the lives of those people who support Israel and peace."
Thank you to Shai Kamin and Rabbi Fryer for planning the program, and to Mr. Rose for his tremendous assistance. |

All-School Shabbaton
More than 100 students traveled to the Daniel M. Soref Education and Retreat Center in Fredonia, Wisconsin for the CJHS All-School Fall Shabbaton on October 12-13. Student Life
Math Team
The Math Team got off to a great start this year! Thirteen CJHS students participated in the first of the Illinois Math League Contests on October 23, earning a team score of 19. Congratulations to Avra Shapiro, Hannah Rosenbaum, Sydni Cole and Seth Berkman for earning the highest scores and to everyone else who participated. The next contest is November 1.
Interfaith Youth Core
IFYC (Interfaith Youth Core) is a club that brings together high school students from different faith communities at CJHS, Loyola Academy and the Muslim Education Center. The project focuses on interfaith dialogue, social justice, and leadership development. Throughout the year, IFYC events incorporate aspects of Christianity, Judaism and Islam to help our communities better understand the complexities of each religion. In addition to being educational, IFYC is a great way to make friends from different religions. This coming Tuesday, October 30, Loyola Academy is hosting an event focusing on humor in each religion. Students will view movie clips to see how humor plays a role in each faith. The co-chairs of IFYC are Elli Cohn, Sydni Cole, and Vanessa Youshaei. |
