Fall Sports
The fall athletic season is off to a great start. The cross-country team proved that hard work pays off with its impressive showing at the Ron Campbell Two-Mile Invite at Niles West last week. Despite the hot and humid weather, all returning team members improved their times in the race from last season. The team was just one point away from bringing home a big trophy! Congratulations to senior Seth Berkman and sophomore Aviva Schwartz for running the best men's and women's times, respectively. This week, the women's team travels to Highland Park High School and the men's team runs at Lake Forest Academy.
What an exciting year this promises to be for the Women's Tennis team. This is the largest and most talented team in the school's history, and the team is scheduled to play more matches than ever before. Led by veteran coach Barb Finfer, the team traveled to Northtown Academy today for its first match of the year.
In its inaugural season of interscholastic play, the Men's Golf team has several contests with North Shore high schools on its schedule. The team's first contest is today against Stevenson. The team wishes to thank its home course, Green Acres Country Club, for its generosity. Tune in next week for results.
Do you like sports and writing and seeing your name in print? Do you want excellent experience to put on a college resume? You should be a CJHS sports reporter! See Mr. Cohen for more details.
Are you interested in promoting and supporting CJHS athletics? Join the Tiger Club (CJHS athletic booster club) and work to enhance the success of the high school's athletic teams.
Finally, are you a CJHS student-athlete? If so, you will definitely want to buy a CJHS sports duffel bag to carry all of your sports gear and apparel. You may customize your duffel bag with your name. All proceeds will benefit the Tiger Club.
Duffel bag and Tiger Club forms have been distributed to students and will be available online soon. |

Yael Derman Wins Metra Contest
Yael Derman, a CJHS junior, was a first place winner in the Inaugural Metra Safety Poster contest, "Lead by Example." Yael submitted versions of her poster in both English and Spanish, and she received a laptop computer and various plaques and certificates for winning the contest. Additionally, Yael's poster will be displayed in various Metra stations and at all public schools. Her poster will also be pictured on Metra ticketsand calendars for the entire month of August 2008. The Metra Board of Directors chose that month for Yael, a cancer survivor, when she revealed to them that August 2008 would mark the 8th anniversary of her bone marrow transplant. |
