CJHS performs
Romeo and Juliet
Will Romeo and Juliet live happily ever after or
will the romance end in tragedy? Although you probably know the
answer, don't miss this incredible production of Shakespeare's most
famous love story and tragedy.
The play will be performed for one night only at 7:30 p.m. on Nov.
22 at Beth Hillel Congregation/B'nai Emunah 3220 Big Tree Lane,
Wilmette. The cost is $5 for students and $7 for community members.
The cast and crew of Romeo and Juliet
would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone whose
hard work and dedication made this show possible.
Thank you to our faithful parents, for your endless encouragement,
support, and chauffeur service.
Thank you to Harvey Gross, Bruce Scher, Joan Waxman, and Rabbi Elliot
Goldberg for their help with facilities; to Shira Koffman and Shira
Eliaser for designing the posters and programs; and a very special
thank you to Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah for the use of
their performance space.
Most of all, we thank our dedicated director, Ron Ben Joseph, without
whom none of this would have been possible.

CJHS expands circle of friends
The Board and Development Committee have begun a series
of parlor meetings with members of the Chicago Jewish community. The purpose
is to expand our circles of influence to include individuals not yet familiar
with CJHS and its plans for the future.
CJHS' most recent meeting was held at the home of Recruitment Committee
member Nina Harris and her husband Arnie, on November 15.
"We are thrilled to be able to welcome new families and individuals into
the CJHS family," said Michael Rubin, Development Consultant. "Excitement
for the new school continues to grow throughout the Chicago Jewish community."
CJHS student begins journey as student ambassador
CJHS is proud to announce that sophomore Naomi Goldberg
has been accepted to the People to People Student Ambassador Program,
a national organization that accepts applicants on the basis of a comprehensive
application and interview process and recommendations. Students accepted
to this program have the opportunity to exercise leadership skills, problem
solving, and teamwork. They will also increase their understanding of
the differences and similarities among all people.
Bruce Scher, Director of College Counseling, praises Naomi
for her willingness to go through this extensive application process but
also for her desire to want to learn more about the world and to want
to make a difference in the world by traveling to Europe and to participate
in these unique experiences.

of the National Association of Biology Teachers on Nov. 12 in Chicago.
"I attended several exciting laboratory workshops
in biotechnology, many of which I will incorporate into the biology and
anatomy curricula," Mrs. Redman said. "In 'Understanding Gel
Electrophoresis,' I learned new methods of creating DNA fingerprints.
Later, I used column chromatography to isolate and purify a bioluminescent
protein. In another workshop, I learned how to perform the ELISA (enzyme-linked

allergens or molecular markers of cancer, pregnancy or drug use.

Sophomores complete PLAN at CJHS
The sophomore class took the PLAN test on Nov. 11 as part
of the college planning curriculum. Results from the PLAN will arrive
at CJHS in mid February and advisors will review the tests with each student.
"The PLAN is great preparation for the ACT assessment-it
covers the same subject areas,." said Director of College Counseling
Bruce Scher. "It gives sophomores an estimated ACT score and helps
students know what high school courses they should be taking. Finally,
it connects students with colleges that may have interest in them and
helps them to identify career that match their interest."
AP releases exam calendar
The Advanced Placement Program and College Board have released
the testing schedule for this year. A.P. exams are given from May 2-May
12, 2005. Registration for the test will take place during the month of
February and all tests will be offered on CJHS' campus. The cost of each
test is $86 and this registration fee is sent to College Board by CJHS.
Students receiving a score of 3,4, or 5 have the potential of receiving
college credit or of advancing their placement in college classes. Please
remember that AP scores are not used for college admissions but only for
college placement. For additional information, please contact Mr. Scher
in the College Counseling Office.
