We hope you had a meaningful Rosh Hashanah. This week of school was short, but packed, so the e-news serves as a brief update of school events. Juniors to Attend Panim el Panim CJHS and CFJE are excited to offer the junior class the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. through Panim el Panim--an educational organization committed to the promotion of Jewish leadership and values. Panim offers a four-day experience in the nation's capitol that offers seminars with lawmakers and teachers. The tour and classes deal with Jewish perspectives on public policy, leadership, and Israel. CJHS students will have the opportunity to meet and learn with students from all over the country.
Information has been sent to eleventh-graders and their parents; your deposit of $300 is due by Monday, October 10. Please bring Ms. Marcus a check made out to CJHS for this amount, with "Panim" written on the memo line. CJHS is deeply committed to ensuring that every interested junior can join its delegation. Please see Ms. Marcus to request a scholarship.
More about Panim Athletics at CJHS Congratulations to the Women's Tennis Team for a great season. There was some great tennis, and a fun time was had by all. We want to thank our seniors--Shayna Flink, Lanie Abisdris, Ashley Silver, and Maddie Miller--for the incredible commitment they have made to the team and hope that they will continue to play this life-long sport. To our underclassmen--Lilli Flink and Karen Avidar--we look forward to your leading the team to another great season next year. And to Coach Finfer--we appreciate your leadership and great timing (son David Jordan was born just after the team's last match)! If students are interested in playing on the team next year and want to participate in a team skills development clinic this winter/spring, please contact either Coach Finfer or Mr. Cohen.
Basketball season is underway. Coach Minkus looks forward to a great season with many starters returning and a new offense and defense planned. The Men's Basketball team's first game is November 10 at Christian Liberty. The Women's Basketball team has many positive developments this year: a record number of players, a record number of scheduled games, and participation in a tournament for the first time in team history. Coach Davis and the team are busily preparing for their first game--November 21 at Highland Park. The teams' schedules and directions to all games will soon be available on the school's website.
Thank You! Thank you to Debra, Arnold and Rebecca Landis who are sponsoring breakfast on Monday, October 10 in honor of Abby's 17th birthday. We appreciate their continuing support of CJHS.
Religious Life at CJHS Abby Landis, Josh Warshawsky, David Weltman, and Shayna Flink led Tefillah this week. Richard Kahn and Matthew Silverman read Torah, and Shai Kamin read Haftorah.
Gmar Chatima Tova May you, your family, and all those close to you be sealed for a good year.
