Four CJHS student receive
National Merit commendation Four members of the Class of 2005, Zachary
Frankel, Jacob Kanter, Shlomi Mir, and Rachel Weiner, have been designated
by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as Commended students in
the 2005 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended students
throughout the nation are being recognized for their academic promise.
Commended students place among the top five percent of more than one million
students who entered the 2005 competition by taking the 2003 PSAT/National
Merit Qualifying Test. Auditions for Fall Drama

the Admissions Office: A look at the College Application Process"
at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 at CJHS. Understand the college application process
at CJHS. Review College Admission Trends. Discuss the college essay. Find
out how and who to ask for a recommendation. Learn the process for obtaining
transcripts. Featured speakers are Director of College Counseling/Academic
Dean Mr. Bruce Scher and Independent College Counselor Mrs. Marybeth Kravets. RSVP by Sept. 20 to College Counseling Associate Ms. Sharna Marcus. Study with noted scholar Faculty and parents are invited to study together with a wonderful scholar and educator from Israel, Rabbi Ben Hollander. There will be four consecutive lunch and learn sessions(Shiurim) at 1 p.m. on Mondays (10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8) dealing with the weekly Torah portion (Parshat Hashavauah). Rabbi Hollander studied very closely with one of the preeminent Torah scholars and teacher, Nechama Leibowitz z"l. Area students to experience Jewish hospitality
in the Sukkah CJHS presents critical study skills seminar for parents and students CJHS is pleased to announce a new seminar designed to help parents and students better understand the learning process, to gain insight on how to learn in different academic arenas, and how to best prepare for classroom and standardized tests. The attitude that students and parents have toward the learning process can definitely impact a student's success both in the classroom and in related activities. This program will emphasize strategies that students can use to manage their time, their responsibilities and their success. This program will stress the importance of students becoming lifetime learning and appreciating the opportunity to grow as both students and as individuals. This program will take place at 7: 30 p.m. on October 12 at CJHS. Bruce Scher, the Director of College Counseling and Academic Dean, will present on these topics and then entertain questions from parents and students. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, this program can help you understand how you can help yourself become a more effective learner and how our staff can assist you on this exciting journey. MERCAZ USA, together with MERCAZ Canada and Women's League for Conservative Judaism, is organizing once again this year the TEEN ESSAY CONTEST for scholarship money for Conservative Movement-sponsored teen programs to Israel.
