The Va’ad Tikkun Olam is collecting funds to be sent to hurricane Katrina victims through the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. CJHS' social action group is also collecting backpacks filled with school supplies.
The Va’ad Tikkun Olam is hoping that every member of the CJHS community will assist us in this very important and necessary Tzedakah collection and would much appreciate it if every student, faculty member, and member of the larger CJHS community donated at least $18 to this fund. CJHS deeply encourages everyone to ask for donations from friends and family members outside of our CJHS community as well, to assist us during this crucial time.
Please deposit cash or checks made out to Jewish Federation Katrina Relief in the Hurricane Relief Tzedakah box located in the front office.
The Federation is working alongside the United Jewish Communities (UJC) to bring aid and relief efforts to the affected areas and hurricane victims. One hundred percent of the donations collected by the Jewish Federation Katrina Relief Fund will go directly to both Jewish and non-Jewish hurricane victims.
In addition, students are collecting school supplies for school-aged students affected by Katrina. Bring a backpack full of
10 new pens
10 new pencils
4 notebooks with lined white paper
1 new binder
1 new toothbrush
1 new tube of toothpaste
2 healthy snack bars
and if you want to be extra nice: 1 calculator, a note to a new friend, and a cool key chain for the back pack.
