CJHS E-News: School Year Comes to a Close

 June 16, 2006 / 20 Sivan 5766

Shabbat Shalom,

After a week of final exams, students, faculty, and staff celebrated the end of the school year with a delicious picnic lunch. Paper plate awards were given to each student, amid laughter and applause. Our students are off to amazing summer adventures – whether at camp, USY on Wheels, doing Katrina relief work, working at local day camps, summer jobs, taking classes, or spending time in Israel. Our students are participating in a range of Israel experiences, including Ramah Seminar, Write On for Israel, Nesiya, Bronfman Youth Fellowships, family trips, individual travel, and more. We know their adventures this summer will enhance their growth as young Jewish adults, and we look forward to hearing all about them in the fall.

Staff Development

The students may have left the building, but the faculty remained at school for a few days of staff development. These days included department meetings, policy discussions, evaluations, and a focused study on differentiated instruction, an educational tool that enables teachers to find ways to effectively teach students with different learning needs. Our study of differentiated instruction will continue during August staff development and into next year. The faculty and staff ended the final session by reflecting on the past year, noting growth, challenges, collegiality, and triumphs.

Chemistry Teacher to be Featured on Radio

Mr. Urick will be featured on a Milwaukee-based fishing radio show next month, in which he will describe patterns for summer fishing for large-mouth bass in northern Illinois. The show will air on Shabbat; beginning July 2, a recording of the show will be accessible via the web. Using the link below, click on Dan Small/Judy Nugent Outdoors Radio, and select Program 109. In addition, Mr. Urick will be doing some TV work later this summer. We’ll keep you posted.

Summer Reading List REVISED

The English department's summer reading list has been slightly revised for juniors and seniors. The revised version is accessible via the link below. Students should come to school in the fall prepared to discuss their assigned readings.

Lost and Found

A family heirloom watch with great sentimental value was lost at school on the last day of exams. The watch has black wristband with gold trip and a gold face. If you find it, please return it to the school office. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
