Director of charity organization speaks to Vaad

Daniel Rothner, Founder and Director of Areyvut, an organization that infuses Jewish youths' lives with the core Jewish values of chesed (kindness), tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (social justice) met with leaders of our Va'ad Tikkun Olam on April 13 during lunch. The students brainstormed ideas to continue to enhance the work that they are doing.

Students attend national social justice conference

Jenn Hipps, Sofi Petchersky and Ruthie Eisenberg attended the National Conference of social justice sponsored by the JCUA on April 10. CJHS students met leaders of organizations from all over the country that are mobilizing the Jewish community to strengthen its commitment to social justice.

GIAC sponsors 'Day of Silence'

The Gender Identity Awareness Club sponsored the National Day of Silence on April 13th. On this day, 10 students took a day-long vow of silence (along with over 450,000 students from over 4,000 schools across the country) in order to raise awareness about the silence in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals often must live.

IFYC event

The IFYC club met on April 10 with CJHS' sister Muslim and Catholic partners to stock the Northfield food pantry. After the service project each group presented about prayer in their respective faith. Aliza Stein, Vicky Neiman and Josh Freeman davened minchah and explained its components. It was fascinating to see how the students in each community approached the subject.

Jacob Shapiro, CJHS Class of 2006, was elected to the executive board of CHUSY Region, United Synagogue Youth, as Israel Affairs Vice President at the Kinnus held April 1-3 at Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Illinois. More than 25 CJHS students attended the Kinnus which featured a special salute to CHUSY's outgoing executive board, including Rachel Hilker, CJHS Class of 2005, Religious Education Vice President.

We are happy to inform you that Executive Director Inez Altman is a Grandma one more time! Abby and Jeremy are the proud parents of Brooke Lindsey Agulnek, who was born Friday, April 8 at 11:58 p.m., weighing in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces.
