CJHS students dance the night away
at the Hawaiian Luau

The annual Va'ad Purim Masquerade was held on March 13 in Hawaii. Okay Wilmette, not Hawaii, but Congregation Beth Hillel was swaying to Hawaiian beats. Students enjoyed fondue, sweets and snacks and danced the night away to the Hanson brothers’ beats. Special thanks to the talent show performers, and the chaperones, the Eliasers, Ms. Bierman, Mr. Schultz, Ms. Gitlin, Ms. Marcus, the Lewises, Dr. Auslander, Mr. Kornblut and the Hanson brother DJs.

Thanks to Bob Yaffe and the maintenance staff at Congregation Beth Hillel. Also thank you to Social Committee Chair sophomore Benji Derman and the other students who helped set up and clean up including junior Ari Gore and sophomores Jorie Goldsmith and Jason Wiznitzer.

CJHS to present $500 tuition credit to B'nai Mitzvah toward freshman year at CJHS

The CJHS Board of Directors has approved a special award for Bar and Bat Mitzvah students toward tuition at CJHS. Each b'nai mitzvah from a Conservative synagogue will receive a $500 credit toward tuition during his/her freshman year at CJHS. The award is available to all B'nai mitzvah, whether they are presently enrolled in Jewish day school or public school. Rabbis will be presenting the award certificate from the bima to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah child, which will not only maximize impact, but will also help promote Conservative Day School education to families with young children. Families must apply by the December 15 early decision deadline during their child's eighth grade year in order to be eligible for the award. The credit is also available to those applicants coming from non-Conservative communities as long as their application is received by the early decision deadline.

CJHS holds successful "Friend Raising" evening

The Second Annual "Friend Raising" Evening held on March 21 was a huge success. About 170 guests attended the program including parents, faculty members, board members and community members invested in Jewish education. Everyone celebrated CJHS and the school's plans for the future. The CJHS Student Vocal Ensemble performed while guests dined on delicious hors d'oeuvres from Danzinger Kosher Catering. Formal presentations were made by Spanish teacher Paulette Margulies, junior Jacob Kanter, and CJHS parent Dr. Carol Rosenberg Derman. The evening concluded with a fabulous dessert buffet. Gifts totaling close to $100,000 have been committed for the event and these funds will help the school move closer to meeting its 2003-2004 budgetary needs. A very special thank you to Cathy and Dr. Ron Silver for opening up their home and underwriting the costs for the event along with Dr. Carol Rosenberg Derman and Dr. Gordon Derman.
