The AMC 12 is taken by eleventh and twelfth graders, including Geoff Levin, Leore Avidar, Shai Kamin, Richard Kahn, Rosie Kiken, Ari Frankel, David Weltman, Seth Berkman, and Lilli Flink. Congratulations to Richard Kahn, the AMC 12 School Winner.

The AMC is a 25-minute, 75-question multiple-choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems that can be understood and solved with pre-calculus concepts.

Yasher koach to Richard Kahn, Shai Kamin, and Seth Berkman, whose performance on the AMC 12 qualified them to compete in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. They will all complete participation in this competition during the month of March. The top scorers in this nationwide competition are invited to participate in the USA Mathematics Olympiad.

Students Attend AIPAC Policy Conference

This past week, seven CJHS students and three alumni attended the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. These students had the privilege of hearing many politicians speak about Israel-related concerns, mainly dealing with the current threats from Iran, as well as many other topics.

Jacob Shapiro, a 2006 CJHS graduate, led a session for high school students about how to be an activist. The students also lobbied the Illinois congressional delegation. Yasher koach to Seth Berkman, Jeremy Frankenthal, Ari Glasser, Daniel Kanter, Aaron Magid, Eli Miller, and Brian Pogrund for attending and participating in this conference.

Students: Don't forget that AIPAC's Early Engagement Director, Aliza Sinkinson, is coming to CJHS after school on Monday to lead a session about lobbying skills.

ACT Test at CJHS

CJHS will offer the ACT on two additional Sundays this year: April 15 and June 10. Students who are registering for the first time for a non-Saturday test date must do so on paper rather than online. Along with paper registration materials, each student must send a letter that verifies that his or her religious beliefs prohibit Saturday testing. Rabbi Goldberg has prepared a personalized letter for each student; these letters and paper paper registration materials are available in the College Counseling office. The regular registration deadline for the April test has passed; however,  the late registration deadline for the April test is March 23. In addition to the regular registration fee, a late fee of $19 is required. See http://www.actstudent.org/regist/actfees.html for more information. The regular registration deadline for the June test is May 4.

Canned Food Drive
Va'ad Tikkun Olam is sponsoring a canned food drive from March 7-20. All canned foods that have not reached their expiration date will be accepted and donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The Depository distributes to food pantries throughout the Chicagoland area. Hunger is a very real problem in Chicago, so please bring in cans. Every can counts. If you have any questions, you can contact David Binstock, Zack Warso, or Zach Kamin.

P.O. Sells Roses for Mothers' Day

The CJHS Parent Organization is selling roses grown on Moshav Sde Nitzan in the Negev. The roses are $18.00 per dozen (mixed color bouquets) and will be available for pickup at CJHS on Friday, May 11 between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. By participating in this fundraiser, you will be patronizing an Israeli company and supporting the CJHS Scholarship Fund. Turn in order forms to the CJHS Office (Attn: Roses from Israel) by April 19. Make checks payable to CJHS PO. For any questions, please contact Kim Frankel at 847-373-1183 or Cynthia Lerner at 847-933-1424.

Breakfast Sponsors

Thank you to the Warshawsky family for sponsoring breakfast on March 12 in honor of Josh's 17th birthday.

Thank you to Matthew Hass for sponsoring breakfast on March 15 in honor of the birthday of his aunt, Andrea Meltzer.

If you would like to sponsor breakfast in honor of a student's birthday (or any occasion), please contact Ms. Inez Altman via email or by phone at 847-324-3713. The students love the recognition, and the bagels are great, too!
