Dear CJHS Community,
During this second semester, the CJHS Va'ad Ha'Talmidim
(Student Government) has many events and programs planned. These
programs and activities are geared towards strengthening the CJHS
community, building school spirit, and bringing in additional revenue,
so that we can continue bringing exciting and entertaining programs
for the students. Please mark your calendars for event dates and
due dates. We look forward to having an exciting second semester,
and hope that you do as well.
Sincerely,
Ari M. Gore

Va'ad Annual Mishloach
Manot Drive
Every year, the Va'ad, with the help of the Va'ad
Tikkun Olam, holds a Mishloach Manot drive for the whole school,
where students, teachers, and administrators can buy gift baskets
for their friends and colleagues. Everyone will receive a basket
filled with fruit, candy, chips, and a drink. Today, all CJHS school
members received a packet of names, containing everyone who goes
to, works in and teaches at CJHS. An individual or family can buy
Mishloach Manot for individuals, at $5 per person, or for everyone
in the school (139 people) for $108. In the Purim tradition, all
proceeds will be donated to Mazon,
an organization that gives food to people who need it. Please return
the order packet by Tuesday, March 8th to any Va'ad member. If you
have any questions, or would like an order packet, please e-mail
Ari at ari_gore@yahoo.com.
CJHS Presents: "Broadway
Rocks!" The First CJHS Cabaret!
At 7:30 p.m. on March 6th, the CJHS Va'ad will be
cosponsoring Broadway Rocks! CJHS's first-ever Cabaret/Musical.
The Cabaret will be at CJHS in the social hall. Tickets are to be
bought at the door, at $5 for students and $7 for adults. CJHS students
will be performing a medley of songs, along with the help of the
CJHS Jazz Band, and with a special performance by a few musically
gifted teachers. Seating will be Cabaret-style. Throughout the evening,
the Va'ad will be selling cookies, brownies, and soft drinks. CJHS
Baseball T-shirts will also be sold before and after the performance
for $15 each. Save the date! It will be a night to remember!
The Purim
Skance
Every year, the Va'ad holds a Purim dance for its
students. This year, the social committee has decided to add a little
twist to the customary Purim dance. On Saturday, March 26th CJHS
will be hosting an on-ice dance, filled with a great DJ and cosmic
lighting - thus, a Skance. The Skance is from 8 to 10:30 p.m., and
located at the Northbrook
Park District Sportscenter
in Northrbook, IL. It costs $15 if you bring a can of food to donate,
and $18 if you don't bring a can. CJHS is officially inviting CHUSY
region to the Skance, and any other youth group member (or friend)
is welcome! Tickets will be bought at the door, but please RSVP
the social committee with your name and the number of people you
are bringing with you. If you have any questions, or would like
to RSVP, please send an e-mail to CJHSskance@yahoo.com.
Support the Va'ad: buy
your Challah from Breadsmith through CJHS
Welcome to the new and improved Va'ad Breadsmith
Order Form! Have your son or daughter give the Breadsmith form and
money to Geoff Levin, Va'ad Treasurer, on the Tuesday or Wednesday
before the desired Friday delivery. Your challot and other selections
will be delivered to the school on the Friday after the order is
placed (or the Thursday after, if there is no school on Friday that
week.) Save yourselves a trip to the store and help support the
CJHS Va'ad at the same time. All of the profit from your Challah
orders goes directly to the Va'ad. If you need an order form, please
email Geoff Levin at to geoff847@juno.com.
CJHS Baseball T-Shirts
are available!
Show your CJHS school spirit! If you would like
to purchase a CJHS Baseball Tee, bring in $15 cash or check written
out to CJHS and turn it in to any Va'ad member. Sizes small through
extra large are available for purchase.

Celebrate Grandparents Day
The Grandparents Committee is kicking off with its first
event with a tour and lunch at An Afternoon for Grandparents, on Thursday,
February 24th at 12:45pm. We look forward to welcoming grandparents to
CJHS, where they will have the opportunity to observe classes, get to
know one another during a special lunch, and meet faculty and staff. Under
the leadership of Alvin F. Friedman and Mel F. Seidenberg, the committee
has been created to more actively involve grandparents in the life of
the school. The committee, which is in formation, also includes Roberta
and Dr. Donald Charous, Rabbi Rueven Frankel, Irene and Dr. Marvin Goren,
and Mayer Stiebel. Many thanks to these committee members for their leadership.
If you have any questions about the event or would like to become involved
with the Grandparents Committee, please call Caren Friedman at CJHS: 847-324-3723.
