CJHS junior instructs students and faculty in
the art of Bonsai

In honor of Tu B'Shevat, junior Joe
Waldman taught more than 30 students and faculty the art of Bonsai on
Feb. 6. Joe brought Bonsai trees to the demonstration for all of the participants.
The event was sponsored in part by Yasukunai Bonsai Garden, where Joe
works.

attend national conferences
Head of School Mrs. Stein and Director of Religious Life
Rabbi Elliot Goldberg attended the Solomon Schechter's Principals Conference
in conjunction with the 52nd annual Jewish
Educator's Assembly conference from Feb. 1-4 in Los Angeles. Mrs.
Stein cochaired two sessions, Teaching the Bible: Thinking About Why
We do What We Do and Best Practices and Pressing Issues.
This summer, Mrs. Stein will begin managing the mentor
program for the Solomon Schechter Principal's Counsel. She will also head
the Liaisons Planning group for developing relationships with institutions
within the Conservative Movement.

CJHS?
Five CJHS juniors attend
Washington conference
Juniors Rachel Bobrick, Ari Gore,
Jacob Kanter, Becky Kupchan and Judah Rubin will be attending the Panim
el Panim conference from Feb. 15-18 in Washington, D.C. with 25 other
Chicago area Jewish teens. The Chicago delegation will join students from
throughout the country in the nation's capital to meet with members of
Congress and become familiarized with political issues important to the
Jewish Community.

Remember donating candy for Israeli
soldiers to "A Package From Home?" Find out more about the organization
which CJHS students collect for every year at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 at
Congregation Young Israel of Skokie, 3740 W. Dempster Street. CJHS junior
Jessie Silverman and her brother sophomore Matthew's Silverman's grandmother
and founder of "A Package
From Home" will be here from Jerusalem to speak about her organization
which provides care packages for soldiers without families in Israel.
