Building Our Future

Our Endowment

Throughout CJHS’ young life, the board and administration have consistently sought out both strategic and creative methods to meet the needs of the school. Financing the construction of the building is no exception. CJHS selected a strategic financing vehicle – tax exempt bonds – which allowed us to begin construction without delay and to open our new, state-of-the-art facility in the fall of 2007.

In May 2006, Oppenheimer & Co.’s Public Finance Division closed on $27.5 million of tax-exempt bonds that were issued through the Village of Deerfield. The bond repayment terms call for only five years of interest, followed by 30 years of interest and principal repayment. Proceeds from the bonds are funding construction costs, bond issuance costs, three years of capitalized interest, and a debt service reserve fund. Income from the school’s Endowment Fund will contribute significantly to the coverage of debt service payments when they begin.

This method of financing has resulted in significant short- and long-term benefits for the school and its students. First, it ensures that CJHS will continue to provide the education and physical plant dictated by the predicted growth in enrollment. Second, it allows the board and administration to concentrate on building enrollment (and thus tuition revenue) and programming without having to use any cash flow to service the school's debt.

The tax-exempt bond financing strategy could not have been implemented without the confidence displayed by institutional and private investors who were impressed with the school's rapid growth in its first five years, its long-range strategic plan, and the success of its early graduates.

Building A Legacy
