Fine,
Performing, and Literary Arts
CJHS is deeply committed to providing
students with a comprehensive and well-rounded high
school experience, and the fine, performing, and
literary arts program is an integral part of the
school’s philosophy and curriculum. Our
faculty members are trained professionals who strive
to further students’ passion for the arts,
help them realize their full artistic potential, and
cultivate an appreciation for the talents of their
peers.
The current fine and performing arts
classes include a cappella vocal ensemble, jazz
band, drama, dance, graphic design, photography, and studio art. These
classes are offered twice a week during the
academic day to give all students an opportunity to
experience the arts.
CJHS also presents an annual musical, a
winter cabaret of dancing and singing accompanied by
the jazz band, a spring drama, and many
community-based events where students perform. CJHS
students enrolled in studio art and photography
courses participate in several art shows throughout
the year that attract faculty, students, and members
of the broader community.
The literary arts program gives
students the opportunity to write, edit, and publish the CJHS yearbook
and The Prints, a literary
journal that includes original prose, poetry, and photography from
students at all grade levels. Students on the debate team study
rule-based competitive debate and compete with other schools. Students
who participate in Model UN, a simulation of the UN General Assembly,
debate current issues on the organization's agenda, prepare draft
resolutions, and negotiate with allies and adversaries.
